Reasonlabs, a cyber security firm warned Spiderman: No Way Home torrent download file has been found to contain a crypto malware that masquerades as a legitimate movie file to lure the victims.

The new Spiderman movie, Spiderman: No Way Home torrent download file has been found to contain a crypto malware that masquerades as a legitimate movie file to lure the victims, warned by the cyber security firm Reasonlabs. The firm in a report claimed “In this case, we are facing someone who has placed a Monero miner in a torrent download of what seems to be the new movie Spider-Man: No Way Home. This miner adds exclusions to Windows Defender, creates persistence, and spawns a watchdog process to maintain its activity.”

Reasonlabs is an enterprise grade cyber security provider that provides cyber protection for the users worldwide. The company explained that they have found malware in the Russian originated torrent file named ‘spiderman_net_putidomoi.torrent.exe’ which translates to Spiderman: No Way Home. As the new Spiderman movie has crossed the $1 Billion mark on the box office, it becomes one of the trending topics to lure the victims in downloading files that can prove to be fatal for them. The attackers for this kind of attack must remain updated regarding the trending topics so that more and more victims are lured.

The firm said that always analyze the file before downloading and the movie files must end with an ‘.mp4’ or similar extension and not ‘.exe’ extension. The user must always view the properties of the file before opening them to ensure that they are legitimate files with legitimate extension.
