New Blockchain Unit Formed by Google
Tech Giant Google has begun to show interest in the crypto ecosystem, by investing in a unit dedicated to research about blockchain and other technologies related to crypto-assets.
As per the resources, Google will create a group under the chairmanship of Shivakumar Venkataraman, VP of engineering, to focus on blockchains and other new technologies evolving in the crypto ecosystem.
Google also hired Arnold Goldberg, a former executive at Paypal, a payment firm. Goldberg is expected to run the payment division of the company, GooglePay. This move by many is also considered a crypto-inspired hire.
On sharing light upon this, Billy Ready, Google’s president of commerce, who also was responsible for hiring Goldberg, “it is a part of a larger plan, intending to broaden the services that are offered by the tech giant to its customers at present, along with cryptocurrencies”.
Google has also partnered with Bitpay, a Bitcoin payment provider, and Coinbase, a crypto exchange, to load crypto assets on digital cards and allow the users to pay for them in traditional currencies.
